Podimo launches a new section in its app with children's content
Oct 5, 2021
The podcast and audiobook platform Podimo has announced the launch of Podimo Kids, its new children's universe where children aged 2 to 10 can access an independent channel within the app with content specifically for them. In this way, Podimo becomes the first podcast platform in Spain to offer an independent channel with content in Spanish for children, a category in the audiobook world that continues to grow.
The recent acquisition of the children's book application Fairytell, which features thousands of renowned classic books such as Alice in Wonderland, Rapunzel, Peter Pan, Hansel and Gretel, or The Dark Matter, among others, allows Podimo to create a new digital universe for children where they can read or listen to these contents simultaneously. Podimo KIDS will also offer content from CantaJuego with its NotiCantaJuego podcast program and Babyradio with its Mon el Dragón and other characters that contain fun, entertaining, and educational stories. In this way, Podimo expands its mission by providing young listeners with stories that can help them develop their imagination, as well as improve their reading comprehension.
Several studies indicate that reading and listening simultaneously increases reading comprehension of texts. “Podcasts and audiobooks have become another support tool in the learning process for children. In fact, nearly 22% of children and young people admit that listening to an audiobook or podcast has made them more interested in reading books. Additionally, 43% of children and young people indicate that audiobooks help them understand a topic better, while 40% confess that, when they listen to stories instead of watching videos, they use their imagination more,” states Javier Celaya, general director of Podimo for Spain and Latin America.
This new children's universe on Podimo is specifically designed to bring children closer to audio, where they can listen to various thematic contents ranging from stories about fantasy and games to adventures about animals and dinosaurs. All in a space-themed setting, with planets, stars, and fun elements, that will make the interaction of the little ones on the platform more special.
“A good story can be something special and can help foster children's creativity and imagination in a completely different way than what is possible with other platforms such as YouTube or Netflix. With the launch of Podimo KIDS we want to meet the growing demand for audio content for children in Spanish-speaking markets (Spain and Latin America). The category of children's content is one of the fastest-growing in recent years across all formats: printed books, ebooks, audiobooks, and now also in podcast format,” states Morten Strunge, co-founder and CEO of Podimo.
In addition to these new additions, there are 300 children's and youth audiobooks and podcasts that have been available on the platform for several months, to meet the growing demand in Spain and Latin America.
With the aim of ensuring that children can access all content in a safe environment, an update will be launched in the coming weeks that will incorporate parental control or age-based content restriction.
