Flo und Patrick über Stadt.Land.Schwul.

Feb 5, 2020

Stadt.Land.Schwul.  is the podcast with the queer perspective on today’s world. It wears its heart on its sleeve like the genitals in a jockstrap. Behind it are Flo and Patrick, two incredibly warm-hearted and cheerful Wahlberliners from the countryside. What inspired the two to create a podcast about the topics surrounding gay and queer life in Berlin, you can find out in this exclusive interview.

What is special about Stadt.Land.Schwul?

We particularly give queer people, who have little or no contact with the LGBTQIA+ community, or who are not quite ready yet, the opportunity to live and accept their “otherness,” to inform themselves so to speak, and thereby be passively involved. Through the variety of topics, we provide information, give tips, and by sharing our experiences, we alleviate the fear that it’s not a problem if one doesn’t fit into the hyper-masculine, binary system of our society.

What was the best/funniest moment for you?

A funny moment for us was in New York when we interviewed Ongina, a drag queen known from RuPaul's Drag Race, and Patrick, a bit tipsy, tried to conduct the interview. Unfortunately, the interviewee was also a bit buzzed, and Flo desperately tried to salvage the spiraling situation.

Did anything go wrong?

There are always some mishaps, mostly during our “live episodes.” It can happen that one forgets to turn on the equipment or in the situation and conversations forgets what they actually wanted to do or ask.

What do you like about the podcast medium?

What we particularly like about the podcast medium is that we can passively participate in the events. That we can gain insights through shared experiences, information, and advice, and it often becomes clear to us that we actually aren’t as crazy as we think we are.

What do you like most about working as podcasters?

What we like the most is sitting together once a week, chatting, philosophizing, and above all laughing together! Also, having the opportunity to look behind the scenes (such as at festivals or events), the conversations with our interview guests, and the actual research we conduct before each episode, where we often learn an incredible amount and are surprised by the end results in the respective episode.

Which episode is your favorite episode so far and why?

Each of the episodes means a lot to us, and we hope to convey that! We particularly like our live episodes, and we had a lot of laughs during the episodes “Sex” and “Sexually Transmitted Infections”!
